The Future of the Internet Economy - OECD Ministerial Meeting
I'm in Seoul this week for the OECD event "The Future of the Internet Economy". Today is the pre-event for the Internet technical community, and the hot topics are self-governance, enhanced cooperation amongst all the interested organisations, continued emphasis on an open and end-to-end network architecture, and a general desire to do more and to do it faster!
Here's a picture of APNIC's Geoff Huston introducing the concept of "end-to-end" for those delegates not fully aware of the kind of characteristics that make the Internet particularly special.

Always a gadget head however, the thing I'm most excited by at the moment is the fact that I'm writing this post with Internet access courtesy of Korea Telecom's WiBro service. I installed the WiBro USB device from Flyvo in under two minutes, and I'm getting very nearly the full 18.7 Mbps advertised. This bandwidth increases later this year to 37.4 Mbps when KT switches on their second wave of infrastructure.

On asking how much this service would cost , should I be a permanent resident here in Korea... wait for it... can you believe it... just £5 (five pounds) for a 1GB per month cap, or £10 (ten pounds) for unlimited.
For the uploaders amongst you, the upload speed today is 5 Mbps, doubling later this year. More later.
