TheFilter.com – ‘A new type of awesome’?

This one took a while to filter down to me, but now it has I’m regretting all that lost time not using it! Imagine a perfect auto-critic that filters out all the rubbish media from the Internet and only informs you of the interesting music and films that float your musical and cinematic taste buds. Strangely enough this is what Peter Gabriel has attempted to deliver to us mere internet mortals.
TheFilter.com ensures that entertainment is filtered for you, saving you all those lost hours mindlessly surfing the net. By rating artists and movies you can select and improve recommendations that TheFilter.com makes to you. Preference choices range from ‘Never show me this again’ and ‘No thanks not for me’....through to ‘A world of average’ and ‘This is good’, finally resting on ‘This is a new type of awesome’! Once you have your filter working at full capacity you will be informed daily of new music and films that the auto-critic predicts will interest you.
Ironically the site was at first filtered out of acceptable sites from my work computer, and once it was up and running I did find some problems with the site. After playing around with it this morning, quickly selecting ‘Never show me this again’ to Hip-Hop….I was greeted on my home page by recommendations of….you guessed it, Hip-Hop! So there’s obviously some work needed on the auto-critic. And, whilst the site does filter interesting web video for you to watch, the TV application is not yet up and running.
Once TheFilter.com has filtered out its small problems, it has the potential to be an absolutely huge and successful Internet phenomenon. I guess the most important question for Filter really is…when will it filter out ‘Peter Gabriel’ from my homepage and replace it with some much needed Phil Collins?
