Worth an estimated $400bn worldwide, the global sports industry is increasingly driven by multi-faceted connections via digital technology.  At this convergence conversation we tackled the ever engaging issue of sport and convergence.

Convergence has not only helped to drive the use of technology within sport itself, but  its commercialisation and interactivity as well.  Now an integral part of the relationship between sport and consumer, technology enables increased information, coverage, and engagement with fans; creating new business opportunities and markets in the process. This symbiotic relationship means sport is increasingly dependent on broadcast and the media for revenue streams.  As broadcasters and content owners undergo significant change in the wake of shifting platforms, it has never been more important to understand exactly where the value in sport will migrate to?

Understanding the shifting effects presented by convergence, and learning how to capitalise upon them is then essential for club, broadcaster, ISP, content owner, and manufacturer alike.

With new products, new markets, and new opportunities, how can we maximise the value of sport?

Conversationalists came along after work and joined us at this meeting to listen, learn, contribute and network - over a glass of wine.

Really looking forward to this. I work for Kinship Networking, we create bespoke, agile social networks for brands and businesses. We're doing quite a lot of work in sport at the moment, particularly around commercial sports teams using social networking technologies to engage their fan base and reach new customers in emerging markets. Keen to chew the sporting fat with other technologists.
