Convergence Conversation - brought to you by Intellect

Convergence Conversation Event, 24 June

  • 'Finding Value amongst the Clouds'

With the next convergence conversation taking place Wednesday June 24th, we firmly fix our sights up into the clouds.

This Convergence Conversation will seek to understand where, when and who should take on the challenge of virtualising their IT and data needs. With some businesses already making the leap to cloud computing and others on the precipice, is now the time to seek value in the clouds? Register online» and join us at the London office of Bird & Bird.

During the past few years a quiet revolution has occurred changing the way in which our increasingly connected world operates. A range of new services and products are being made available to business and consumer alike as computing becomes a utility service, allowing us to pay for what we use and when we use it.

This represents a huge opportunity for UK business, both in terms of using ICT to gain greater business advantage and also in being at the front of the wave, developing new services and products for a recovering global marketplace.

Proponents of cloud computing technology claim the virtualisation of IT and data offer businesses increased flexibility, reliability and savings. However, it's clear that its disruptive effects have shifted existent revenue streams, replacing those business and market structures already in place.

As the move continues from fixed to flexible computing services, vendors and end users alike must understand the impact of this converging phenomenon. Not only does cloud computing bring new and exciting opportunities, but difficult and testing questions too.

Questions that need answers include:

  • what is the definition of cloud computing?
  • what does the shift from tied locations to virtual infrastructures mean in practice?
  • just how important is a service culture to successful cloud operators?
  • how do customers make the most of cloud technology computing?
  • when, where, and for whom is the application of cloud technology right?

Key themes to be discussed include:

  • the virtualisation of cloud computing
  • how to deliver value from cloud computing
  • the market impact and inherent business opportunities

Who's speaking?

Chaired by Philip Sheldrake, our speakers are:

  • Roger Baskerville, VP EMEA, Vizioncore
