Everybody knows the quote: "Half my advertising is wasted, I just don't know which half."
Today's convergent landscape offers advertisers some solutions to the age old problem. Set-top box ad serving based on viewing habits and post-codes, search advertising connected to the user's context, social network campaigns that target user groups' connections and behaviour, and mobile advertising based on location recognition and augmented reality are completely changing the advertising landscape.
At the same time, the traditional (linear) model of : 'creative to media plan to execute' has gone straight out of the window. The fragmented, time-shifting, place-shifting, mobility oriented, smart-phone carrying, privacy conscious and socially influenced user has become ever harder to reach and convince. Non-linear, cyclical, auction oriented and search driven models have shifted enormous value within the advertising industry already.
So what is the future of advertising in the convergent world? How much more effective can advertising be? And what new challenges will advertising and advertisers need to tackle in the next 24 months? Are agencies geared up to run truly convergent campaigns? Are brands making the most of single-casting and engagement opportunities? And what will advertising look like in the next few years?
Come along to this Convergence Conversation on "The Future of Advertising in the Converged World", on 26th August 2010, to debate, argue about and get perspective on these questions.
