Topic for this Conversation: ‘Publishing 2.0’
Amidst the doom and gloom of media and advertising, newspapers (who were pronounced dead 5 years ago) have reinvented themselves. Paper has given way to digital editions, audiences are suddenly international, tiered “freemium” models offer alternative revenue sources, and increasingly the use of video on their websites is blurring the lines between “publishers” and “TV companies”.
Simultaneously, book publishers are back in the news as eBooks and readers are on the rise, along with device-agnostic projects such as Google Books and Gigapedia, changing the cost / revenue structures and royalty / IP models in the publishing world. The fluidity of the market is underlined by the recent McMillan-Amazon Kindle imbroglio. The iPad has had mixed reviews but there seems little doubt that electronic readers will play a role in our future.
How will this resurrection change publishing and its technologies? How will it impact the AV media world? Where is this market heading?
Come along after work and join us at this Convergence Conversation to listen, learn, contribute and network. The format is always deliberately informal, with a chance for everyone to put forward their views in an open discussion and network over a glass of wine.
