Yesterday saw Japan become the first Asian team in history to win a World Cup, but it wasn’t the only record the game broke. The 2011 Women's final saw over 7,000 tweets sent per second (TPS), smashing the previous record set by New Years Eve 2011, and more than doubling TPS during the 2010 Men’s World Cup final. What's really interesting here, beyond the expanding popularity of Twitter, is how consumers are integrating social networking with TV and what this means for broadcasters.

1.       How will “newspapers” solve the problems of declining circulation, changing consumer habits and declining revenue growth?

a.       According to the World Association of Newspapers, Global circulation grew 1.3 % in 2008, (up 8.8 % from 2003) but dropped 3.7 % in North America & 1.8 % in Europe.

b.      1.9 billion people read a paid daily newspaper every day and newspapers reach 41 %  more adults than the world wide web – WAN, 2008

As Head of Intellect's Internet and Media programme, Colin works with technology leaders to build agreed positions on emerging market and regulatory issues including: digital entertainment, the connected home, child safety, and social media. Colin also drives Intellect's connections with content creators and the UK tech start-up scene, building networks and sharing information across key players in the technology and media industries. In the past year Colin has brought together over two thousand tech and media leaders to network and discuss convergence issues, whilst delivering thought leadership and position papers on issues as diverse as the connected home, social media, and the future of television. In 2012 Colin will predominantly be working to help shape the technology industry's view on the new communications review, growing Intellect's footprint in emerging technology areas, building links into the creative sector, and growing the well established programme for consumer focused device and technology providers. Prior to joining Intellect, Colin was based in Canary Wharf for an international media company where he specialised in forecasting and planning for an array of European publications. Colin is a graduate from The University of Reading where he studied ‘Politics, International Relations and Strategic Studies’ focusing on the issues surrounding human rights.
